Our music stands at the crossroads of the old and the new. Southwater's sound emerges from the traditions of bluegrass, folk, and country music; we trace our roots to an eclectic bunch of musicians, past and present. We play a mix of bluegrass (and other) standards as well as numerous originals. Our arrangements range from straight-up instrumentals to pieces that place a heavy emphasis on vocal harmonies. Although our musical voice is built upon strong two and three-part vocal harmonies and traditional bluegrass instrumentation (guitar, banjo, and bass), we are not content to leave that sound alone. Our music reflects a studied reinterpretation of the bluegrass genre.
We take tremendous pride and pleasure in our sound and value the opportunities that it provides us to meet others. Southwater is available in the central Virginia area to play for parties, get-togethers, and other special occasions.
